Rebecca Luckey, LM, CPM / Midwife & Practice Owner
Florida Licensed Midwife and Certified Professional Midwife, active license since 2012. Mother of four.  Rebecca has been working with birthing families since 2006.  Prior to her midwifery studies she worked in the graphic and interior design field. She sought out midwives for her children in Naples before moving to the Central Florida area in 2004. After the birth of her third child she felt drawn to help others during pregnancy and birth by becoming a Doula, HypnoBirthing instructor, midwifery assistant and back office for a birthing center. Several years later she began her studies as a midwife at The Commonsense School of Traditional Midwifery.   Rebecca also has a passion holistic healing.  Certifications and areas of study also include Clinical Hypnosis, Homeopathy and Herbalism in the Childbearing Years and Pediatrics.  After helping other Central Florida midwives open birth centers and a successful home birth practice, she has partnered up with her bestfriend to run the Community Birth & Wellness Center.
Care Philosophy~
"Midwives are experts in normal pregnancy and childbirth. Developing a trusting and nurturing relationship with you and your family is an important part of the care provided by CBWC. I believe in a woman's innate ability to give birth by providing gentle, nurturing and physiologically based midwifery care. Birth is sacred and should be respected as such. As a Florida Licensed Midwife, I encourage and support women to use movement, water, massage and relaxation during natural childbirth. My work is one of patience, support and guidance as you need it.
A midwife knows that a woman labors best in an environment where she feels safe and uninhibited, with attendants whom she knows and trusts. Birth is a unique process that unfolds differently for each mother and baby. I view pregnancy, labor and birth as normal, healthy events and understand that birth is a complex and empowering life experience for women and their families. I welcome family and friends to actively participate in the pregnancy, labor and birth to the comfort of the mother. Every woman has the right to choose where and with whom she has her baby."

Donna Rubens / Front Office & Practice Owner

Birth, and every aspect of caring for women and babies from pregnancy through the postpartum
period, is my passion. As a result I have wanted to open a birth center for as long as I can remember.
I really have to start from the beginning to see why the desire to open a birth center has been so
strong for so much of my life.
I am the proud mother to four beautiful children. Two are grown now and have begun their own
adult lives, and two are still young children under my care. I did not have them all at home or even
all in birth centers though. My first was born in a hospital and even though my experience at that
hospital wasn't really as bad as some of the stories you hear from other women, it wasn't the greatest
experience either. I knew there must be a better way than this, and I was determined to find it.
When I found out I was pregnant with my second child five years later it gave me the perfect opportunity to find that better way. I knew that I wanted something more, something different from my first experience, and that I would not be likely to find what I was looking for in the hospital. A friend of mine was pregnant at the same time as I was, and she had mentioned that she was looking into birth centers. I had never even heard of birth outside of a hospital before that moment. I decided to tour several and see what they were about, and I fell instantly in love. From the home like atmosphere and the quality of care you receive in the hands of the midwives, it was all so different than what I had experienced with my first child.
By my third pregnancy I was even more into researching my birth options (options I didn't even know existed during my first pregnancy!) and prenatal care. I once again chose a licensed midwife for my care and delivery. It was then that my passion for midwifery and birth centers was truly born. I helped my midwife behind the scenes to open her own birth center and fell in love with the idea of opening my own one day. As the years go by my passion and longing has only grown stronger. I believe all women should have the right to birth where they want and to have the quality care that a midwife provides.
I want to give the women in Lake County the option that I didn't even realize I had all those years ago. I also want to provide a place for classes and education on topics ranging from childbirth to breastfeeding as well as infant and child CPR. It is my hope that through education and quality prenatal care women in Lake County can have the birth of their dreams too.

"I believe my role as a midwife is to encourage, educate and show women that yes, they can birth their babies without interventions.  I believe women know intuitively how to birth their babies, their bodeis are not broken.  I believe it is an honor and a privilege to attend a mom in the labor and delivery of her baby.  I believe I am there at a birth to support and encourage the laboring mom.  I believe I am there to watch over the process and only step in with my training if necessary.  I believe a baby is a blessing from God and they should have a safe entry into this workd surrounded by love."
